The Climate

The Lower Mosel lies in the transition zone between the temperate maritime climate and the continental climate - compared to other regions of Germany it enjoys a warm and sunny climate. The Eifel mountain range shields the terraced Mosel landscape from westerly winds, putting it in a rain shadow and sometimes creating a Foehn effect. At the same time, the air is warmed by the very low level of air exchange with surrounding areas. These weather conditions are perfect for growing Riesling grapes.
